A Midsummer Night's Dream Synopsis

A Midsummer Night’s Dream is one of Shakespeare’s most beloved plays. It is a lively romantic comedy - in which a love triangle is further complicated by the use of a magic love potion by Puck, the mischievous servant of Oberon, King of the Fairies. The action moves from the Palace and City of Athens to the enchanted forest nearby, where both the fouryoung lovers, and the down-to-earth workmen (who are rehearsing their ridiculous play in the woods), are all thrown into turmoil by Puck’s misdirected tricks. The two young men, Lysander and Demetrius, both reject Hermia and fall for Helena, becoming fierce rivals who try to kill eachother. Meanwhile, Puck uses his magic to turn Bottom the Weaver into a donkey, and causes Titania, Queen of the Fairies to fall in love with him. Chaos and comic misunderstanding follow, but eventually, Oberon restoresorder and the play ends happily with a triple wedding, and the hilarious performance of the workmen’s play ‘Pyramus and Thisbe’.

For the 10th anniversary season, Lethbridge Shakespeare Performance Society is proud to present 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' - a new interpretation of this lovely play by the same director, Andrew Legg, who presented it during our first season in 2012! During the past ten years, LSPS has showcased eight other Shakespeare plays - both comedies and tragedies, with the help of more than 150 talented actors and artistic creators, all drawn from the University of Lethbridge or local Community theatre groups. We are delighted to be returning to the beautiful setting of Nikka Yuko.
